Prescott School Missoula's note - Dorothy Appleman was an important part of Prescott School according to Ms. Rose. psm is a fan of grandparents in the schools. They are such a help to the teachers and the children.

Prescott Teacher Elaine Rose’s Pumpkin Pie 

Recipe              

 

 

Elaine Rose was the 4^th grade teacher at Prescott School for many years.  She was the 4^th grade teacher of two of Prescott School Missoula’s children.  In 2002, Ms. Rose shared a pumpkin pie recipe with her class during the holidays.  Prescott School Missoula is glad to be able to share this recipe with all fans of Prescott School.

PIE CRUST

1 1/3 cup flour

1 tsp

Mix together these two ingredients

1/3 cup salad oil

3 Tbsp. cold milk

Pour into measuring cup but do not stir together

 

Pour milk and oil all at once into the flour mixture.  Stir with a fork until mixed.  Press dough into a smooth ball and flatten slightly.  Roll out dough between 2 pieces of waxed paper. Peel off paper and fit into pie shell.  Flute the edges of the dough.

 

PUMPKIN PIE FILLING

1 ½ cups mashed cooked pumpkin          

½   tsp. salt

2 eggs, beaten

1 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice

1½  cups milk

1/3 cup honey

 

Pour filling into pie shell.

Bake in 425 degrees F oven for 15 minutes.

Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake 45 minutes longer.

 

Let pie cool.  Serve with whipped cream. 

 Perhaps take a walk to Prescott School to bring back memories of your years at Prescott.

Margo Jerrim, former Prescott School teacher, featured in Missoulian article -- "WESTERN MONTANA LIVES: Teacher driven by fairness, humor, patience"

Below is a link to a Missoulian article reporting on the life of Margo Jerrim, a former popular and long-time Prescott School teacher.  Margo taught at Prescott School until it was closed in 2004and then taught at Rattlesnake School.

Given that she was a Missoula schoolteacher, and for a time president of the Missoula elementary school teachers union, the lives she touched were counted by the hundreds.

“She had a great sense of humor, and she was so patient,” said Dan Rude, who co-taught with Jerrim for many years when Missoula’s Prescott School was still open.

“She always had the right thing to say at the right moment,” he said. “She could really calm a room or conversation – she was good at settling tension.”

WESTERN MONTANA LIVES: Teacher driven by fairness, humor, patience

Margo Jerrim, former long-time popular Prescott School teacher passed away in October of 2010

Margo Jerrim, a popular and long-time Prescott School teacher died on October 20, 2010.

After Prescott School was closed in 2004, Margo then taught at Rattlesnake School.

Margo held Prescott School in such high esteem that her family held her memorial service in the Prescott gym. The gym was beautifully decorated and filled with people who loved Margo, including her fellow Prescott School and Rattlesnake School teachers, other school staff, in addition to her devoted family.

One teacher at the memorial stated that the teachers at Prescott School were a tight knit group and would meet in frequent social gatherings. Such is the pull of Prescott School, a popular school located in the lower Rattlesnake for more than a century.

Prescott School Missoula would like to give our condolences to the family of Margo Jerrim.

Former Prescott School teacher Dan Rude named international president of Sons of Norway

Missoula Son of Norway named international president

The above link is to a Missoulian article dated October 27, 2008, reporting on former Prescott School teacher Dan Rude and his involvement in the Sons of Norway organization. As reported in the article, Dan Rude was a long-time teacher at Prescott School.

"These were the beginnings of one Norwegian family in America. Now, their grandson lives in Missoula and values this heritage so much he has risen through the ranks of the largest Norwegian cultural organization outside Norway to become the international president of the Sons of Norway."

"For the past 40 years, Rude has been a teacher in Missoula, working for 12 of those years at Franklin School, and 28 at Prescott School. After retiring, the 65-year-old Rude got more involved in Sons of Norway and now receives a stipend for his work as international president, a mantle he assumed last month."

It's great that Dan has risen so high in the Sons of Norway organization.
